What are Reconnects?

The internet structure

Every Internet User has a so called IP (Internet Protocol) Address. This address contains 4 numbers seperated by a simple dot, ranging from 0 to 255.

This IP identifies your internet access point in the whole network of computers on the world. All the IPs are managed from big computers in the internet (called Servers), you (the Client) get your IP from your provider's server.

Static and dynamic IPs

If you got a static IP from your provider, you do not have to read more. Everything that follows is based on a dynamic IP address.

Static means: If you do a reconnection, your IP doesn't change. A reconnection has no use to you.

Steps and effects

A reconnection disconnects and connects your router from the internet. On a connection, you get an IP assigned from your provider, normally another one than that before the disconnection.

For what do I need them?

You need a reconnection if you do not have a so called Premium Account. As a Free User you have to wait some long time between two downloads.

The hosters of the files save your IP in a big database and block your download requests for some time after a successful download to prevent themselves from massive downloading, so that Premium Users can download better.

So a reconnection eleminates the wait time problem between the downloads, because you get another IP and the OCH servers identify you as a new user.
